When God lays something on your heart, do you obey or turn away?

Updated: Dec 17, 2020

I wanted to share more of what God laid on our hearts through the beginning of this journey....

We're living the dream - 4 happy healthy kids, a beautiful suburban home with an amazing dream pool and just 30 minutes from Walt Disney World. Ryan has a great job that he loves where he gets to travel the state of Florida & Puerto Rico. I have the job of my dreams - being a stay at home mom! A job I longed and prayed for, a job God has blessed even more by calling me to homeschool our 4 kiddos!

Pre-Covid19 we went to church every Sunday, were involved in a small group, playdates at the park, library days, homeschool PE co-op, frequent visits from family & friends and most of all frequent trips to magical Disney World. The American Dream. Truly, “a wonderful dream come true.” Each day I thank Jesus for this dream come true as I cook in my big open kitchen or splash around in the pool and go down the waterslide.

God called us 1,000 miles away from our family & friends for this dream come true and He has blessed us abundantly!!! So now what? God is calling us to make a change, again. Another big change for our whole family, a change that again has come with a lot of prayer and submission to His calling.

When God lays something heavy on your heart, something that will take you away from the dream you’re living, do you obey?

When COVID19 struck it forced Ryan to stop all travel and work from home, which has resulted in the longest consecutive amount of time together as a whole family in over 7 years. Ryan would normally be gone 3-5 nights every single week for work, its hard but this is where God has us. Now, every night I get to sleep next to him, I get to share my day in person with him, not via text. He gets to see the kids little accomplishments and he makes us dinner every night - which is a passion and joy of his!

Brayden recently prayed thanking God for all this time we’ve had with daddy. He has to work hard, but we’re together. Through all of this we’ve realized even more that we are better together and that we desire to keep it this way with no hotel nights away from each other.

Around our 14th Anniversary (May 27th) we started to talk about how we are a slave to the American Dream, yeah its great, but it also feels like a ball and chain. We’re slaves to the lenders of our home, our van, even magical Disney World because it’s yet another payment going out every month. I was drawn to Proverbs 22:7 which says

"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender"

As I was reading this verse tears started streaming down my cheeks because verse 6 says...

“Train up a child in the way s/he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

As a family, we teach our children about Jesus and put Him in the center of our lives, but this made it clear that we’re also teaching them how we live - slaves to the lenders. I don’t want to be enslaved to lenders for the rest of my life. I don’t want to save now and enjoy retirement later, I want to live our life to the fullest now, together. So we prayed.

A day or 2 later Ryan and I talked more in depth and agreed that God was calling us to make a change. A big change. Many tears were shed that day as I came to the true realization that God gives, and takes away. He gave us this wonderful dream come true in Florida and now He’s asking us to make a change, again. At first I had closed fists as I prayed (knowing that these things are just things and they aren’t truly mine to keep). But we continued to pray for His will to be done. Then Romans 12:2 really hit me. It says

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

He is over all and in control of all and knows the future, not me. He knows what His will for us is, not me. So I got on my knees and surrendered, “not my will but Your will be done.”

God is calling us to live a more simple life. A life with less stuff, a life that will free some of the chains of lenders. A more simple life but one filled with more adventure. A life to become debt free.

Through a lot of prayer and submission we’ve asked God to give us guidance and wisdom and to open or close doors for His will to be done in our lives. We’ve reached out to our realtor friend and asked him to take a look at our house and show us comps. We were shocked to find out houses around us had gained 10% value since we bought. We went into the meeting asking God for clear direction and to close doors. We told ourselves that if we would lose money on the house, that maybe it would be ok or maybe a door closing. But instead, we learned the opposite. We’ve seen our financial assets grow more in the last week than they have in months!

God is working in us, He’s calling us to something completely different and out of our comfort zone, again. He’s asking us to submit, obey and “do all things without grumbling or disputing” (Philippians 2:14). We’re submitting, and praying and going forward with selling our home, and downsizing to pay off all debt.

So with bold faith we got our home ready to sell & journey to become debt free so we can “live like no else so we can live like no one else.” -Dave Ramsey

We gave or sold almost all of our things to start a debt free life, a life with less which will be filled abundantly with more!

One of the ways we started giving more was through an organization called HOPE Apopka in our area that helps the needy and homeless get food, clothes, housing items etc. and strives to help them get off the street into a home. We were blessed with being able to help a single mom of 4 who had nothing make her apartment a home with things like a dining room table & chairs, a bed with bedding, blankets & pillows, kitchen items and so much more! Thank You Jesus for blessing us so we could/can bless others

We made a video about our journey of living with less to give more, but this blog is to share even more of what God laid on our hearts through the beginning of this journey!

Live with less give more,

The Party of 6
